A Clockwork Orange with Original Music by Anthony Burgess

 

Anthony Burgess’ musical play of A Clockwork Orange was performed in Manchester last week – for the first time using the composer’s own music. Burgess is often overlooked as a composer and music scholar, and this musical version of the book made famous by Stanley Kubrick was an attempt to take back the misunderstood intentions behind the novel. Here the composer talks briefly about the motivations behind creating his own ‘authoritive’ version.
