Was There Such a Genre as Funerary Violin?

Led by Mano Divina, the Divine Hand Ensemble is a chamber group from Philadelphia consisting of a Thereminist, string quartet, classical guitarist, two harpists, a soprano, and a tenor.

Here the Ensemble’s violinist Monique Canniere performs a piece of ‘funerary violin’ music called ‘The Dizzying Flight of Death’. The story of this ‘musical genre’ is summarised in this NPR article.
