TRAD information day
TRAD, a one-day information session will take place on 11th Nov. at 11am at Glór Irish Music Centre in Ennis. TRAD aims to inform traditional artists of new funding opportunities available through the Arts Council Deis scheme and to discuss issues relating to the traditional arts community, focusing on recording and touring. Traditional Singer in Residence
The Seamus Heaney Centre has announced a new project, made possible by a grant from Foras na Gaeilge. Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin, one of the most accomplished traditional singers of her generation, and author of the widely praised A Hidden Ulster, will be resident in the Centre from September 2005 to September 2006. She will be conducting a series of events in the coming year and has already been collaborating with Ultach Trust in its series of events based around An Leabhar Mor (The Great Book of Gaelic) exhibition in The Ulster Museum. First ever BA in Jazz Performance
Validation of the country’s first Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance was announced by The Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) in August. The course, which will be offered in the Newpark Music Centre in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, is the first non-classical undergraduate music performance course in Ireland. It is expected that up to 20 students will enrol onto the course each year.

Jazz performance degrees are common in the US and throughout the EU, but this is the first time this kind of training has been available to Irish music students. www.newparkmusic.com

Sounds Electric ‘05
Sounds Electric ‘05 is a 3-day festival showcasing the very best in electro-acoustic and instrumental music. A celebration of innovation and originality, the festival brings to Ireland the leading international composers and performers in electronic and computer music for an intense weekend of world-class concerts, workshops and seminars. This year the festival will take place at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth from 2-4 December 2005.
