A group of composers have come together with the Contemporary Music Centre to develop a new website for showcasing the work of Irish composers.

The idea was first proposed by composer Fergus Johnston at a public discussion during the Mostly Modern Contemporary Music Festival in April. The web-site is currently being developed by the Dublin-based new music collective EAR and Jonathan Grimes of the CMC.

An open call will shortly be made to composers to compile a CD selection of their music to be broadcast from the website. The genre of show is up to the composer/presenter in question: suggestions include recorded works, playback of recorded concerts, ‘composer’s choice’ type broadcasts, and so on. The web-case will be a non-discriminate service and have an interesting mix of all genres of new music, be it electronic, acoustic or live improvisation, and so on. The shows will be run for a short period of time, i.e. 1-2 weeks. During this 1-2 week window anyone can go to the site and listen to the broadcast. After this time a new show will be uploaded.
