Dear Editor,

I am unaware of any publication anywhere in the world that covers such diverse forms of music, and I must congratulate you on this excellent magazine.

I am sure that many readers will agree that the forum offered is invaluable and informative. In this respect, it is very healthy to see the differing views being expressed.

I wanted to make a brief comment on the general subject matter and tone of many of the contemporary art music articles. I find myself reluctantly nodding in agreement with the general tone of them and the points that they make.

I am in the unusual position of having experienced, in a unique way through Anúna, the best and worst of the general music industry. I can’t help thinking that the time has come for a change in our attitude to our own art form. As a young composer in my twenties, I got the feeling that contemporary Irish music was an exclusive club. I would be fascinated to hear whether Irish composers would rather be part of an exclusive or inclusive group of musical creators, and if inclusive, how we could go about unifying ourselves into a single, positive force.
