Pauli Lyytinen Magnetia Orkesteri - Brilliant Corners Jazz Festival

Friday, 8 March 2019, 8.00pm

As the name implies, intense musical magnetism is the driving force for multi award winning quartet Finnish saxophonist Pauli Lyytinen has put together. With his Magnetia Orkesteri he has assembled four of the best Finnish jazz musicians working today Verneri Pohjola (trumpet), Eero Tikkanen (bass) and Mika Kallio (drums).

With a sound that could be described as Art Ensemble of Chicago meets Henry Threadgill, this is a fierce and controlled explosion of 21st century free jazz meets western chamber music. This mixed with Lyytinen’s tightly woven compositions creates a framework for the Magnetia Orkesteri to make unforgettable music.

“There’s definitely something that connects Chicago to Northern Europe in terms of this particular blend, and it’s a damn good one” – The Wire
