As part of The Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival Bottlenote presents three nights of improvised music in the atmospheric surrounds of a gloriously dilapidated Georgian residence on North Great Georges Street. This year’s edition once again features the cream of Dublin’s improvising musicians, alongside a leading figure of European improvised music and film scores, Dutch cellist Ernst Reijseger (Werner Herzog, Winter & Winter). Ernst will be joined on these three special nights of music by Seán Carpio (guitar, electronics), Justin Carroll (keyboards), Shane Latimer (guitars, electronics) and Seán Mac Erlaine (woodwinds, electronics). Lighting and atmospheres are by designer John Crudden.

Making the most of this abandoned yet beautiful Georgian residence, the audience will be led from room to room throughout the house to experience quiet improvisations, explosive sets and moments of magic. This is a strictly limited capacity event with six performances taking place over three nights, running two shows each night at 7:30pm and 9:15pm with doors opening 15mins before each performance. Last year’s concerts sold out and advance booking is mandatory. There will be no tickets available at the door.

Ernst Reijseger (Netherlands) is a ground-breaking cellist and composer, specializing in jazz, improvised music, and contemporary classical music. Over the course of his career, which has spanned more than four decades, he has defied genre and conformity, finding a distinctive and separate voice in many disciplines. A masterful musician, he has made numerous recordings, and has performed both as solo cellist, as part of a collaboration (saxophonist Sean Bergin, cellist Yo Yo Ma, pianist Burton Greene amongst others) and with other groups (The Amsterdam String Trio, trio with Harmen Fraanje and singer Mola Sylla amongst others), and has been the subject of a documentary film. He has also written several film scores, including scores for a number of Werner Herzog films.

Reijseger, whose only other Irish appearance this year was at the National Concert Hall this past April as part of their Perspectives Series, has steadily been increasing his relationship with Ireland, and with Dublin in particular, collaborating with Irish musicians and filmmakers. His inclusion in this year’s Bottlenote Festival is sure to be a truly unique and special event of a musician at the peak of their career.

The Walls Have Ears is curated by Justin Carroll, Shane Latimer and Sean Mac Erlaine in collaboration with Tiger Dublin Fringe, and is supported by the Arts Council and Dublin City Council and in partnership with Improvised Music Company.

All musicians featured will perform at each of the six concerts throughout the three evenings.
