Thursday, 21 March 2019, 7.30pm

The Internationally acclaimed Carducci String Quartet will join Julian Bliss, one of the world’s finest clarinettists, for a thrilling programme of music at CIT Cork School of Music on Thursday March 21.

The evening will feature immortal works by Haydn and Brahms, plus David Bruce's Gumboots Clarinet Quintet, described by Gramophone magazine as “an engaging new work which deserves a place in the chamber repertory”.

Based in the UK, the Anglo-Irish Carducci Quartet are renowned for their versatility and excellence in playing both classics and brand new compositions and have collaborated with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.

The quartet features Matthew Denton and Michelle Fleming on violin, Eoin Schmidt-Martin on viola and Emma Denton on cello. Since forming in 1997, the quartet have won a number of awards including first Prize at Finland’s Kuhmo International Chamber Music Festival in 2004, the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in 2007 and the Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2016.

Having started playing at the tender age of 4, Julian Bliss has already built an impressive international career as a concerto soloist, chamber musician, jazz artist, masterclass leader, and instrument maker; he created his very own Conn-Selmer range of affordable clarinets inspiring young musicians to follow their path in music. As a soloist, Julian has performed with a range of international orchestras including São Paolo Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Paris, Auckland Philharmonia, BBC Philharmonic, London Philharmonic and Royal Philharmonic orchestras.
