Opera North The Magic Flute

Opera North The Magic Flute

Saturday, 19 January 2019, 7.00pm

This bewitching coming-of-age adventure takes the audience on a magical journey with Prince Tamino as he sets out to rescue Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night, from the clutches of the Priest of the Sun. However, nothing - least of all Night and Day - is quite as it first appears. This new production of Mozart's epic fairytale, finds adventure jostling with dark fantasy, comedy colliding with powerful drama, and arias demanding incredible vocal feats alongside stirring choruses, all underpinned by Mozart's amazing music.

South African soprano Vuvu Mpofu makes her UK debut as Pamina, with Australian-Chinese tenor Kang Wang appearing as Tamino in his Opera North debut. James Brining, Artistic Director at Leeds Playhouse, directs his first ever opera, joining forces with Colin Richmond who has designed the set and costumes.

The Magic Flute opens at Leeds Grand Theatre on 19 January 2019 before touring to The Lowry at Salford Quays, Theatre Royal Newcastle and Theatre Royal Nottingham.
