Monday, 23 January 2017, 12.00pm

Founded in 1882 the Royal College of Music (RCM) provides specialised musical education and professional training at the highest international level for performers and composers and is ranked as the top UK conservatoire, second in Europe and third in the world for the Performing Arts in the QS World University Rankings 2016.

The RCM is seeking an Assistant Communications Officer to support the work of the busy Communications Team.

This role will play a critical role in raising the profile of the Royal College of Music externally and supporting internal communications. The role requires someone able to produce written copy of the highest quality. Someone who has the flair to tell a good story and the ability to adapt messages for a variety of audiences and outlets. Impeccable grammar is required; as is a good instinct for tailoring messages for different stakeholder groups. The post also requires someone who can assist with internal communications and create exciting content to be shared via newsletters and flyers as well as on the RCM’s popular social media and online platforms.

The successful candidate will be a skilful and persuasive communicator, in-person and on paper. They will have experience of an arts communication environment, be aware of the latest developments in social media and comfortable with a very busy workload. They will have high level organisational skills, and be excited at the prospect of working in an environment of unparalleled musical riches and inspiring artistic achievement.  Experience of working in a communications team, PR agency or in journalism is desired. The successful applicant will be brimming with ideas and have the ability to create rich media content appropriate to specific audiences. An understanding of the higher education landscape is not essential but is desirable. Above all, the successful candidate will be an excellent writer with impeccable attention to detail and be able to turn complex subject matter into engaging content.
