Marketing & PR Manager, The Little Chamber Orchestra

Saturday, 2 August 2014, 11.55pm

The Little Chamber Orchestra is a new London-based orchestra that holds fun, themed and exciting social events designed around classical orchestral concerts, with the aim of attracting both young and new people to classical music. Each night begins with drinks, followed by a classical concert of approximately an hour, after which the party begins, with food, drink and live music/DJ.

The idea is to create an environment in which a young and essentially non-classical music crowd can be introduced to classical music in an accessible and contemporary way, with the deeper aim of opening their minds to the beauty, depth and poetry of orchestral music. We believe one of the essential ways this can be achieved is through exploring the story-like or emotive nature of the music being performed, using all the non-musical means at our disposal to enhance the depth of the musical experience.

We anticipate the creative team to go through a process of creative and visual experimentation to achieve this. Some extra-musical ideas include: venue theming; lighting; costumed staff; visual cues or props; narratives prior to each piece; pre and post concert themed music/DJ/party. For this reason the orchestra is looking for a talented creative event producer to work in conjunction with the musical director to bring this vision to life, with the aim of breaking down the barriers that many young people experience in relation to classical music.

The Little Chamber Orchestra has held 2 concerts to date, both of which were a resounding success and has now fortuitously received enough funding to build the orchestra’s brand over a 5-year period.

As a result the orchestra is now looking to hire a management team to run every aspect of the orchestra. Positions that are available include: Marketing & PR Manager; Event Producer and Orchestra Manager. Along with the existing Musical Director this 4 man team will manage and execute every aspect of the orchestra’s business.

This is an opportunity to join a new venture at the beginning of its life, and build it from the ground up with significant autonomy and creative input in the direction and execution of its growth. The Orchestra is therefore looking for talented professionals who would be excited to be involved in something new and creative. We expect each team member to be fully responsible for their area of expertise and lead the strategy for that area. We aim to build an effective and harmonious team with a unified passion for our goals.

Applicants should have a relevant qualification and/or significant experience in their area as well as a proven track record that they can work autonomously without a senior manager or mentor. All team members will liaise with the musical director, but be expected to take significant initiative.

While the Orchestra can offer ongoing prospects, due to having recently secured 5 year funding, the annual budget is tight and therefore we are looking for talented professionals who will accept less than market rates in return for the opportunity to be involved in something new and exciting with massive opportunity to steer its direction and growth. Salaries will be negotiated individually in accordance with experience as well as hours. We envisage an average of 10 to 15 hours per week depending on skill level and proximity to a concert, with an initial target of 4 concerts per year.
