Miles Davis Symphonic: Kind of Blue – The Guy Barker Jazz Orchestra and Southbank Sinfonia
MILES DAVIS SYMPHONIC: KIND OF BLUE
THE GUY BARKER JAZZ ORCHESTRA + SOUTHBANK SINFONIA
Saturday 18 November, LONDON Cadogan Hall (matinee)
Guy Barker’s fascination with Miles is transformed into a personal view of the emotional depth of Miles’ recording, re-created for orchestra and big band by artists with a rare command of large-scale instrumental resources, and whose ability to combine orchestral sweep with swing is unparalleled.
Guy Barker’s career has encompassed work with the likes of Paloma Faith, Quincy Jones, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Sting, Alison Balsom, Anthony Minghella and countless others as one of the most inventive jazz composers/arrangers on the planet. He is also a terrific trumpeter – and the musical director of Jazz Voice, which celebrates its tenth birthday this year
Alongside Barker’s big band, packed with some of the most distinctive soloists in UK jazz, Southbank Sinfonia bring a special character to the occasion – an orchestra of outstanding young professionals described by The Times as ‘a dashing ensemble who play with exhilarating fizz, exactness and stamina’
