Punch Brothers: Performance Workshop

Punch Brothers: Performance Workshop

Wednesday, 21 January 2015, 3.00pm

With a style that has been described as “bluegrass instrumentation and spontaneity in the structures of modern classical”, Punch Brothers is one of the most exciting bands that have emerged in recent years.

With a strong sense of Bluegrass roots, virtuosic instrumental technique and intricate arrangements, Punch Brothers (led by mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile), draw on a wide palette of musical influences to produce a truly individual and innovative sound.

In a unique educational opportunity, Punch Brothers will conduct a performance workshop in the National Concert Hall on 21st January 2015. During this event, the band will discuss and demonstrate their approach to composing and performing, and offer feedback and advice to participants.  While not a master class, participants may be invited to play during the workshop.

This event is aimed at music students and musicians, and offers a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the workings of one of the most virtuosic and freewheeling bands working today.
