The Song Company is currently seeking an experienced Artistic Director to build on its reputation established in its first thirty years and lead the ensemble to fulfill its vision for the next period.
The Role:
The Artistic Director, reporting the Board of Directors, is responsible for the artistic direction of the company. The key accountabilities of the role are:
Artistic Direction
Working closely with The Song Company’s Chief Operating Officer and administrative staff in planning and contributing to national and international performances, recordings, broadcasts and other events as necessary to promote The Song Company’s artistic vision.
Providing the Board of Directors, assisted by the Chief Operating Officer, with timely, fully costed program planning aligned to the strategic direction of the company;
Planning and executing the annual program including the selection of guest artists and the development of new arrangements of existing musical scores;
Representing The Song Company publicly at functions, events, launches, media calls, fund-raising activities and on tours, and otherwise representing The Song Company as a public spokesman.
Preparing reports and submissions to funding organisations as required; and
Timely and expert reports to the Board on all artistic and performance activities of the ensemble.
Ensemble Leadership
Rehearsing and performing with the ensemble as leader, director, concertmaster soloist and conductor as required;
Artistic leadership of the ensemble so as to maintain the highest performance standards for which the ensemble has become renowned;
Providing leadership for The Song Company;
Selection and management of the ensemble members and artistic associates;
Directing and planning of work schedules for the ensemble;
Leading and performing in development performances.
Experience and qualifications:
For this post with an international profile, a considerable professional experience is required including the following as a minimum:-
Demonstrated relevant expert experience in leading a capella vocal ensembles;
Must have a demonstrated record of positive collaboration with staff and ensemble members;
Expert mastery and knowledge of the classical, traditional, and contemporary repertoire in keeping with The Song Company programming;
Demonstrated capacities for organisation and leadership;
A breadth of experience across the range of musical repertoire.
