Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble: Music Box

Thursday, 8 March 2018, 7.30pm

Hard Rain conductor, Sinead Hayes, curates this concert to celebrate International Women’s Day.

“This concert celebrates some outstanding contemporary solo and ensemble works from recent decades. The music featured represents the work of emerging and established composers from the Irish and international composition community, all of whom happen to be women. The music has been chosen to showcase the virtuosic talents of the Hard Rain musicians, Gubaidulina’s Allegro Rustico contrasting sharply with the technical difficulty of Jane O’Leary’s Only Gestures Remain and Elaine Agnew’s improvisatory Music Box.

The pieces for larger ensemble show the vast palette of atmospheric colours and textures that can be drawn from an ensemble of 3 – 5 players. From the quirky humour of Heera Kim’s Quartet, to the subtle brilliance of Hong’s Shades of Raindrops, via Sadie Harrison’s confident No title required for quintet, our travels through this engaging repertoire finish with a Hard Rain commission from Gráinne Mulvey - enjoy the journey!”
