Martin Hayes and David Power in concert

Friday, 20 January 2017, 8.30pm

Two great masters of the tradition, fiddler Martin Hayes and Waterford piper David Power will “take the audience to the other side of reality with music to make the heavens swoon” (Robert McMillen, The Black Box) on Friday 20th January in Baile Mhúirne”. This will truly be a grand opening to the Spring Season of Concerts in the beautiful intimate setting of the Ionad Cultúrtha. Hayes is a fine exponent of the east Clare tradition and knows how to bring his
music to the edge,  performing on his own, with his guitarist, Denis Cahill and most recently with the super group ‘The Gloaming ‘ and now seamlessly with David Power!
This promises to be a very special concert indeed as Hayes will undoubtedly weave his way through the tunes in his very personal approach to the music – teasing the listener along with his slow melancholy tune, then transforming into a low-fat dance tune light, bringing it finally to a climax of passionate playing, enhanced by his brilliant bowing and the tossing of his curly head of hair! Power will rise to the bait and enchant the listener with his beautiful piping and we will experience with both these musicians nearest thing to unison playing ever produced by a duet.
