Preab Meadar
Cos Cos premiers a very special performance which brings together traditional music innovators, Lorcán Mac Mathúna and Daire Bracken, with sean nós dancers, Liam Scanlonn and Caoimhe Ní Mhaolagáín, to create a mesmerising conversation of rhythm between voice, fiddle and traditional dance.
For those with a love for Irish dance traditions this unique concept is a mouthwatering prospect.
Based on Lorcán and Daire’s ground-breaking suite of dance-songs, in new complex-time signatures, Preab Meadar; this work will see a unique performance of vocal, instrumental, and dance traditions. Preab Meadar is a new musical conception of newly defined tune rhythms based on the meters of a medieval Gaelic poetic tradition known as the Dán Díreach. It is a corpus of dance songs with unprecedented complex time signatures, and new tune typologies to add to the traditional pallet.
In this project the composers have taken Preab Meadar a step further and have joined with Sean-Nós dancers to devise new steps suited to the rhythms of these tune typologies. Their unique new steps will be revealed in a world premier at the Cos Cos Sean-Nós dance festival in Sligo. Under the pitch of St Columba's church these ancient lyrics will resonate in harmony with the sound of dancing shoes to create a thrilling visual and aural performance.
