Johann Sebastian Bach:
Easter Oratorio
Lobet den Herrn
Ascension Oratorio
This programme provides the rare opportunity to hear both of these brilliant oratorios and an accompanying motet, in one performance. Such uplifting, joyous music clearly illustrates Bach’s ability to convey the fragility and vulnerability of humanity and yet fully reaffirms the wonder and excitement of life.
The programme sits comfortably between the celebration of Easter and the Ascension. Right from the start you have the brilliance of the orchestral introduction and the crisp articulation of the chorus of the Easter Oratorio.
Lobet den Herrn, though the shortest of Bach’s motets, is yet full of energy and invention and suggests almost shouts of joy in the closing Alleluia. The concert is completed with the Ascension Oratorio
Soloists:
Róisín O’Grady, Soprano; Carolyn Holt, Mezzo soprano; Christopher Bowen, Tenor and John Molloy, Bass.
