3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music

Saturday, 30 September 2017, 11.00am

Back by popular demand, the Galway Music Residency presents another 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of music. This autumn, a unique set of concerts will feature the Galway ConTempo Quartet and some of Ireland’s best young musicians.

On the 30th September, 14th October and 4th November at 11am in the surrounds of the series' new home, the Niland Gallery, the audience will experience an eclectic mix of classical, contemporary and Irish traditional music. Over the course of the series, the ConTempo Quartet will treat us to Three Great Classical Masters: Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. From Classical; to Jazz, from Trad to Contemporary, this series is set to captivate and delight.

The series’ first concert this Saturday will feature Galway’s own ConTempo Quartet and emerging contemporary artist Brendan Maher who will perform a series of Jazz improvisations and a pleasantly palatable form of 'acoustic guitar battery'! In the traditional Irish genre, the audience will be treated to the stylings of Conor Connolly on accordion. Conor will focus on a series of jigs, reels, set dances and slow airs from the Galway region. His contemplative performance will be interwoven with the subtlety that is rarely credited to traditional Irish music.

Supported by NUI Galway, the Arts Council, Galway City and County Councils and GMIT, admission to these events are free, open to all, family friendly and early arrival is recommended. Donations are welcome. For further information, visit www.thegalwaymusicresidency.ie or call 091586706.
