Gráinne Brady presents BEYOND: The Story of an Irish Immigrant
Cavan-born, now Glasgow-based fiddler Gráinne Brady (The Routes Quartet, Top Floor Taivers, LAS) launches her project BEYOND: The Story of An Irish Immigrant, about the history and legacy of mass Irish emigration to Scotland, with the première of her debut album 'The Road Across the Hills' in Chapter One, Cavan.
It soundtracks an autobiographical novel by Donegal author Patrick MacGill (1889-1963), who made this journey aged 14. Evoking the hardships of his life as a tattie-howker and navvy, and the community resilience that sustained him, it will be performed on fiddle (Brady), accordion (Andrew Waite) and guitar (Innes White). The trio will be performing music from ‘The Road Across the Hills’ with storytelling and spoken word.
