Musical Director for theatre production - The Last Five Years
This summer, The Lir Academy, Ireland's National Academy of Dramatic Art, will be producing Jason Robert Brown's seminal musical "The Last Five Years" as part of its 2018 showcase festival for graduating actors, directors, designers, and technicians. The production is in need of a Musical Director to act as piano accompanist during rehearsals and performances, manage and conduct the band going into performances, and direct and coach the two actors in their vocal performance.
Brown's score requires a good deal of technical competency, being roughly at or above the complexity level of much of Stephen Sondheim's work, and the ideal Musical Director will be a proficient piano player as well as have a strong understanding of the nuances of vocal performance.
The production will rehearse full-time for four weeks beginning the week of June 4, and culminate in six performances at The Lir throughout the week of July 2. As a leader of the production team, the Musical Director will be expected to attend most regular rehearsals, as well as all dress rehearsals and performances.
The showcase of performances will be attended by managers, agents, and casting directors from across Ireland and the UK, highlighting all artists involved. As an academic production, the Musical Director will be offered an honorarium for their services, with the primary benefit of involvement coming from experience, networking, and showcasing with the most prestigious theatre-training institution in Ireland.
A soundtrack and full piano score are available on request, and the accompanying link will provide basic information on the show.
