RTÉ, Ireland’s Public Service Media Organisation, has six business divisions, one of which, the RTÉ Orchestras, Quartet & Choirs, maintains the RTÉ National Symphony and RTÉ Concert Orchestras, as well as other performing groups.

The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra (RTÉ NSO) plays a central role in classical music in Ireland, through live performances, broadcasts, commercial recordings and touring. In addition to its annual Subscription Season, Horizons contemporary music series, national tours, residencies, and a busy summer season, the Orchestra continues to gain international recognition from both its concert activities and recordings.

Reporting to the Orchestra Manager, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day co-ordination, movement and storage of all the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra’s instruments and equipment for domestic and international needs.

Key responsibilities will include:

– Planning and setting of platform/opera pit for the orchestra’s rehearsals and performances
– Maintaining good working knowledge of all instruments/equipment alerting management to repair as arises
– Assisting Orchestra Manager in scheduling the transportation of instruments, music stands, lights, staging, props and any other equipment deemed necessary in a cost effective manner
– Undertaking reconnaissance trips
– Supervising Orchestral Assistant
– Organising repairs and overhauls of instruments/equipment

Candidates should have:

– Significant experience in the orchestral, music and/or entertainment business
– Education to Leaving Certificate level
– The ability to work and contribute as part of a small team and to work on one’s own initiative
– Good level of computer literacy
– Full clean driving licence
– Excellent spatial awareness coupled with problem solving skills
– An up to date working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety policy and practice

The salary range for the position is €33,122 – €35,889 and the post will be offered on a fixed purpose contract of approximately 9 months.
