Burren Summer Festival

The Burren Summer Festival of Memorised Music runs from 25th-28th August 2016 in Ballyvaughan, Clare with an exciting line-up of some of Ireland’s finest composers and musicians.

This year’s theme ‘Composing a New Island’ reflects the festival’s focus on 21st Century Irish Composers across the genres of traditional and classical music and everything in between.

Featured composers who will be appearing as performers include Mairtín O’Connor, Anne-Marie O’Farrell, Benjamin Dwyer, Vyvienne Long, Neil O’Loghlen, Eimear McGeown and festival Artistic Director Dave Flynn, whose Irish Memory Orchestra are the featured ensemble at the festival.

Young Irish composer/vocalist Siobhra Quinlan will also perform the world premiere of a new work for voice and electronics based on W.B. Yeats’ poem ‘That Crazy Girl’ during the New Music Marathon at the Burren College of Art on 28th August.

‘Composing a New Island’ - New Music Marathon

A day of 21st Century Irish compositions across the genres of classical, traditional and jazz. Confirmed composers/performers appearing are Benjamin Dwyer (guitar), Anne-Marie O’Farrell (harp), Siobhra Quinlan (voice), Sinéad Finegan (composer), Matthew Berrill (clarinet/sax), Liz Coleman (fiddle), Neil O’Loghlen (bass/flute), Etain McCooey (oboe), Aisling Agnew (flute) and Dave Flynn (guitar). Other composers whose works will feature include Eibhlís Farrell, Peter Moran, Judith Ring, John McLachlan, David Bremner and Martin O’Leary.
