Stian Larsen live @ The Black Gate Cultural Centre

Friday, 28 September 2018, 9.00pm

Stian Larsen (guitar) encapsulates every aspect of the diverse musical landscape that exists in Norway today. With his finger in many vastly differing musical pies, on any given day you might find him at the forefront of contemporary improvised music in the form of his duo KÖök or in the studio with Need Music producing Norway’s next “top-twenty” hit song. One thing that sits at the core of every one of Larsen’s musical endeavours is an unwavering, relentless pursuit of his musical truth regardless of genre.

In the spirit of this pursuit and his first love, Jazz and Improvised Music, Larsen brings this yearning for the new and unknown to the shores of Ireland, yet untouched by him. Who better to provide a representation of what Ireland has to offer his musical tastebuds than 3 musicians who have a strong musical relationship with each other and who themselves manage to stay immersed in all that is Irish Improvised Music; Derek Whyte (Double Bass), Matthew Jacobson (Drums), and Chris Engel (Saxophones). Join them and participate in a melding of the musical hearts and minds on the Irish debut of this new project.
