Flamenco at Farmleigh

Saturday, 20 April 2019, 3.00pm

JOHN WALSH (Flamenco guitar) with MARIA DELGADO (singer), PEPE RODRIGUEZ (percussion) and CARMEN CERVANTES (dancer)

Bringing all the excitement, energy and emotional depth of authentic traditional Flamenco straight from Spain to Ireland, the brilliant guitarist John Walsh will present a performance of classic Flamenco palos (song forms) as well as some of his own instrumental compositions for guitar. John is one of Ireland’s leading Flamenco guitarist, and has performed at a number of prestigious Flamenco festivals and venues in Spain. He has also composed music for the National Ballet of Ireland, Riverdance and Michael Rooney’s ‘De Cuellar Suite’ amongst others.

Accompanying John this afternoon will be Maria Delgado, an exceptional traditional Flamenco singer from a family of Flamenco artists stretching back generations. Maria hails from the city of Algeciras, home of the legendary guitarist Paco de Lucia. He will also be joined by Pepe Rodriguez, a top percussionist from Algeciras, who has worked with many distinguished artists including Jose Manuel Leon, Salvador Andrades & Alicia Carrasco. The three musicians will be providing an exhilarating musical backdrop for Carmen Cervantes, a traditional Flamenco dancer based in Madrid, who has performed worldwide with various companies. She is currently director and dancer with the ‘Flamenco a la Turca’ project, a Flamenco show with Turkish music.
