Exciting news for Limerick and the mid-west with a Limerick produced opera production from 3rd to 6th May 2019.
The site specific production moves through the ground floor rooms and hallway of The Old Sailor’s Home, O’ Curry Street, Limerick, (3RD to 5th May) with an accessible seated performance at The Hunt Museum. (Monday 6th May 5pm)
Opera Workshop present four short operas inspired by the historic, Old Sailor’s Home and its links, with the sea and Limerick’s river port. Moving from room to room in this dramatic setting, Opera Workshop’s singers will spin tales of adventurers and of those they leave behind.
A production of firsts; the Opera Workshop ensemble will perform original works by Limerick Composer Fiona Linnane and Canadian Composer Sophie Dupuis and including the world premiere of Fiona Linnane’s new work, ‘Off Tuskar’, specifically composed for Opera Workshop. Inspired by the true story of The Loop Head ship, bound for Limerick from Wales and lost in the great storm of 1927 with a crew of Limerick and Clare sailors, which had a devastating effect on the families left behind.
Expect a whirlwind of betrayal, loss and hope when you step through the doors and into the dramatic setting of the Old Sailor’s Home with Opera Workshop. Four short operas, a host of tragic, beautiful, fun and wild characters all with their own story to tell. Inspired on Limerick’s Riverfest Weekend by the port, the sea and sailors, and those who wait on shore.
