 How can I apply to this course?
All applications can be made via the BIMM Institute Dublin Admissions team. 

To request an application form, all you need to do is email the BIMM Institute Dublin Admissions team at info [at] bimm.ie or call +353 1 5133 666.  The completed application form can be returned via email to info [at] bimm.ie.  The deadline to apply for this course is 5pm on Friday 24th August 2018. 

Once you have applied we will contact you with the details of your interview. Applicants receive at least 10 days’ notice of your scheduled interview time.  We encourage applicants to bring along any relevant material which demonstrates their experience in music and audio production. 

International applications are welcome and skype interviews can be arranged if applicants are unable to attend their interview. 

What are the minimum entry requirements for this course?
The minimum entry requirements for this course is the successful completion of one module at QQI Level 5. This is equivalent to one subject at Leaving Certificate level.  The minimum grade accepted at Leaving Certificate is 1O6 (formerly one Ordinary Level D3).

Applicants must be 17 on 1st January in the year of entry. 

All applicants must also attend an interview to determine their eligibility for this course. Interviews for the Diploma in Music & Audio Production will take place from March and throughout the summer. Please note that all correspondence is carried out by email. 

Overseas students where English is not their native language must meet a minimum English language requirement of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. 

Can mature students apply?
Mature students are welcome! Applicants must be 23 on 1st January in the year of application to be classified as mature student. The primary entry criteria for consideration will be interview. 

What are the fees?
The fees for the course are €1,950 and are payable upon enrolment. A deposit of €300 will be required to secure your place. 

Can I pay the fees in instalments?
A deposit of €300 will be required to secure your place. The balance of the course fees can then be paid  with a once off payment or our finance team will be happy to discuss a payment plan with you upon enrolment.  A monthly instalment of €330 per month is required until the course fee payment is complete.

Can I get a grant?
Unfortunately, as the Diploma in Audio & Music Production is a part-time course, students are not eligible for grants or funding from Student Universal Support Ireland. You may wish to avail of our monthly payment plan. 

Is there a scholarship available?
BIMM Institute Dublin are delighted to announce the 2018 ‘2fm Music & Audition Scholarship’ which will offer one student the opportunity to study on the one-year Diploma in  Music & Audio Production free of charge.

To be in with a chance to receive the 2fm Scholarship, students must first apply for the BIMM Institute Dublin Diploma in Music & Audio Production. To request an application form, all you need to do is email the BIMM Institute Dublin Admissions team at info [at] bimm.ie or call +353 1 5133 666. Applicants may indicate on their application form that they wish to be considered for the scholarship.  

Once your application has been received, BIMM Institute Dublin will contact you with details of your interview. If you’re a successful applicant and are offered a place on the course, you may be considered for the 2fm scholarship. Scholarship applications will be reviewed based on previous experience and personal statement by the BIMM Institute Dublin & 2fm panel.

Will I take classes with the Professional Musicianship or Music Business students?
BIMM Institute Dublin Diploma in Music & Audio Production students will not share classes with other courses however BIMM Institute Dublin provides extensive support to its students through networking events and gigs.  All Music & Audition Production students are welcome and encouraged to audition for gigs such as Live & Lyrical, End of Term and gig alongside students on the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music and CPD Diploma in Professional Musicianship. Music & Audio Production students will also be provided with opportunities to assist with in-house recording of college wide projects

CPD Professional Musicianship students have access to a wide range of facilities and services at DIT – what facilities and services do we have access to?
As a BIMM Institute Dublin Music & Audio student you will have access to all the facilities and opportunities on offer at BIMM such as guest Masterclasses, one to one tutorials and of course, you’ll be taught by a team of successful music industry professionals! This includes access to tutorials with our highly skilled team of established music industry professionals who are actively working as performers, songwriters, producers as well as music supervisors for film and creative industry entrepreneurs while sharing their knowledge with our students at BIMM Institute Dublin.

Diploma students have unlimited access to group tutorials and clubs such as Keyboard Club, Business Club, double bass club to name but a few. Students also have access to unlimited career and pastoral tutorials. Students may wish to book career tutorials to discuss their goals within the music industry. Pastoral tutorials can be arranged with our onsite Student Services team to help students deal with personal issues during their time here at BIMM Institute Dublin. 

Students on the BIMM Institute Dublin Diploma in Audio & Music Production have individual access to our Mac Suite with industry standard Music & Audio Production software including Pro Tools, Ableton Live & Logic DAWs. 

Can I spend a year in another BIMM college?
As this course is a part-time course scheduled over one academic year unfortunately transfer to another BIMM college is not possible. 

Will I be involved in the same opportunities (gigs, album, Masterclasses etc) as CMM students or will Music & Audio Production students have their own opportunities?
All Music & Audition Production students can audition for termly gigs alongside students on the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music and CPD Diploma in Professional Musicianship. Music & Audio Production are also encouraged to submit demos for the BIMM album will also be provided opportunities to assist with in-house recording.  In addition, Music Production students will also have access to career industry tutorials and masterclasses. 

What can I do after this course?
As with all courses at BIMM, the BIMM Institute Dublin Diploma in Music & Audio Production is designed to help students establish a sustainable career within the music industry. Having developed an awareness of the range of employment opportunities, Audio & Music Production graduates will be well equipped to choose an appropriate area for specialisation, either through further study or apprentice-level entry into the workplace in a range of industries. Having completed the course students will be equipped for entry level into employment in areas as diverse as music production, audio engineering, audio for games, broadcast, post-production, corporate audio, pro-audio sales and audio system installation.

 

The teaching staff at BIMM Institute Dublin have strong links to industry which provides unparalleled access to the workplace for its students. Students will be made aware of opportunities in the wider audio landscape, and gain the requisite knowledge to specialise in any audio related sector.

Can I apply to the BA(Hons) in Commercial Modern Music after the completion of this course?
The BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music is a four year full time degree validated by Dublin Institute of Technology. Students choose to study one of 5 streams: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals or Songwriting. Graduates of the Diploma in Music & Audio Production are welcome to apply for the BA(Hons) in Commercial Modern Music.  Applicants must meet the audition requirement for their chosen stream on this course and the minimum academic requirement for this course.

The BIMM Institute Diploma in Music & Audition Production does not meet the minimum entry requirement for this course. Graduates of this course may wish to apply to the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music based on previous qualifications achieved.

The minimum entry requirements for the course are 2H5s and 4O6s in any Leaving Cert subject plus the required entry points for this course. Applicants can achieve up to 600 points in their audition to combine with their Leaving Cert points towards this course. 

The primary entry criteria for mature applicants is audition only.

Applications open from November and close at 5.15pm on 1st February each year. As this is a restricted course, late applications are not accepted.

Will BIMM help me to find accommodation in Dublin?
Applicants are required to find housing privately however we do have various resources available to help you in your search for accommodation! As there is heavy demand for student accommodation in Dublin we advise you to look as early as possible.

Dublin has various types of accommodation available such as private student accommodation, house shares, flats and ‘digs’ with a host family. Facebook is also a great way of linking up with students at BIMM and our Student Services team have a dedicated private Facebook group to help students advertise rooms and team up to find accommodation. Just search ‘BIMM Dublin Accommodation Forum’

Are International students accepted?
International students are welcome to apply for this course. 

Please note as this is a part-time course NON-EU student are required to investigate the visa requirements for part-time study in Ireland.

If I don’t pass my interview for Music & Audio Production can I apply for the BIMM Institute  Diploma in Professional Musicianship or BIMM Institute Dublin Diploma in Music Business?
Yes, applications for these courses can be made directly to the college. All applicants are subject to the minimum entry requirements and audition/interviews for these courses. 

What is the timetable like – how many hours will I have each week?
The BIMM Institute Dublin Diploma in Music & Audio Production will take place over five hours per week scheduled over one day.  The timetable for 2018-19 entry will be confirmed upon enrolment.
