Vocalist, violinist and songwriter Jessie Kennedy once again joins forces with arch collaborator Justin Grounds, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, on a spacious and haunting record combining re-interpretations of ancient Irish songs with Grounds’ post-modern fragmented fiddle tunes. Choosing such dark texts such as ‘I am Stretched on Your Grave’ and the intoxicating ‘Lagan Love’, the pair chose to limit their palette to unorthodox instrumentation featuring clarinet, viola, muted piano and electronic textures, and of course Jessie’s voice, stark and pure. Combining both a love of the tradition with a wild unfettered creativity, this is traditional music for a postmodern generation.
