with incidental music from Matthew Locke’s Psyche 

“Great minds against themselves conspire”

The young award winning Early Music Ensemble Sestina present a concert staging of Henry Purcell’s masterpiece Dido and Aeneas.

Sestina continue their collaboration with Director Thomas Guthrie and dancer/choreographer Bridget Madden and will be joined by some of the finest players of Original Instruments.

Dido and Aeneas tells a tale of love, loss, magic and sailors, culminating in the famous lament “When I am laid in earth” recently voted BBC Radio 3 listeners favourite operatic aria.

Sestina will add to the existing score by re-establishing a Prologue that is missing, using music from Psyche by Matthew Locke (1675) and other complimentary music.
