What Can I Learn?

Tutoring sessions are conducted on a modular basis so that participants can benefit from a collaborative multidisciplinary teaching approach. A full range of harping techniques are covered and include:

  • Irish harping techniques
  • Traditional ornamentation
  • Session and group playing
  • Wire strung harp styles
  • Music of the 16th and 17th century Harpers
  • Singing in Irish and English

If participants have specific requirements, the festival will endeavour to ensure that they are addressed during the week.

Public concerts, workshops and sessions

A highlight of An Chúirt Chruitireachta is the popular evening public concert series. Featuring world-renowned harpers from Ireland and further afield, this series is a major annual showcase celebrating Irish harping.

Meet young harpers at the pop-up opening afternoon concert on Sunday July 1. Watch out for our Festival lunchtime harp series at The Tholsel in Drogheda featuring our rising harp stars and friends.

Listen to expert harpers at An Chúirt Chruitireachta’s afternoon workshops. Festival mentors and workshop specialists give participants an opportunity to experience world-class performers in a relaxed interactive setting.

Harp makers welcome from all corners of the world to the annual harp exhibition where the festival gives pride of place to premier Irish harp makers. This will take place Sunday July 1 at An Grianán 2.30-5pm

Venue

An Grianán in the village of Termonfechin, Co Louth, is easily accessible as it is just 50km from Dublin and is near the M1. There is a regular train and bus service between Dublin and Drogheda, the nearest town. A bus and taxi service is available between Drogheda and An Grianán, the Festival venue, where comfortable accommodation is provided, along with excellent food and all the facilities needed to ensure a thoroughly enjoyable week.
