Wednesday, 3 July 2019, 5.00pm

BBC National Orchestra of Wales are seeking a new Orchestra Director.

You should expect the overall scope of responsibilities to include leadership of the orchestra, strategic planning, artistic vision, financial and administrative management, development of commercial work, and building and maintaining internal and external relationships.

As the Director you will lead, motivate and inspire the management team and members of the orchestra, promoting best practice and equality of opportunity and providing a clear and visionary sense of direction, artistic vision and purpose.

The Director of BBC National Orchestra of Wales is a member of BBC Cymru Wales’ senior leadership team and will be expected to contribute to the overall strategic development and direction of the BBC’s content and services in Wales – including the organisation’s cultural and arts remit beyond the orchestra.

As a natural promoter and advocate for the orchestra, raising the profile locally, nationally and internationally will come easily to you, and in achieving this, you will build excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Are you the right candidate?
Your refined leadership skills, including the ability to motivate large groups of staff and to provide clear strategic and artistic direction will be an essential attribute, as well as an in depth understanding of the music and performances sectors, with a good knowledge of orchestral repertoire, as well as conductors and soloists.

Adding to this, you will have excellent business skills, combining commercial flair and the ability to manage the orchestra within the internal BBC market. This will be supported by your strong understanding of marketing and commitment to audience development, with the ability to be innovative in identifying new opportunities and approaches for attracting and retaining a diverse audience base.

Welsh language skills are not necessary.
