HANDEL’S ACIS AND GALATEA
In St. Brendan’s Church, Bantry, West Cork
8pm, Wednesday 29th March 2017
Opera Theatre Company and West Cork Music present Handel’s Acis and Galatea, in St Brendan’s Church, Bantry, for their only Cork performance on Wednesday 29th March at 8pm. This concert will be conducted by renowned Baroque specialist Peter Whelan and will feature the dazzling Irish Baroque Orchestra.
An idyllic romance between two young lovers Galatea and Acis is brutally interrupted by Polyphemus, who is determined to claim Galatea for himself. When the headstrong Acis ignores warnings that love is only a fleeting pleasure, he ends up putting himself directly in the line of fire.
Sung in English, Acis and Galatea features tenor Eamonn Mulhall and soprano Susanna Fairbairn as the thwarted lovers, with bass baritone Edward Grint as Polyphemus and tenor Andrew Gavin as Damon. The Acis and Galatea chorus includes Cormac Lawlor, Fearghal Curtis, Peter O’Reilly and Sinead O’Kelly.
