Are you a journalist with a passion and deep knowledge of guitars? Would you like to interview legendary guitar heroes, from Jimmy Page to BB King? Are you looking for a new challenge and want to play a part in shaping the longest-running and best-selling guitar magazine in the UK? Guitarist is looking for a Deputy Editor to join the team to interview great players, test the finest guitars and create ambitious features and video content.

As Deputy Editor you’ll work closely with the Editor to continually develop and deliver a content plan that ensures we expand our readership, across print, digital, web and social while retaining and entertaining the loyal readers who’ve followed Guitarist for years. You’ll play a leading role in planning, commissioning and creating features content, including feature reviews for the magazine. You’ll break world-exclusive stories on major artists and famous guitar brands, write reviews, and present video demos of new gear, as well as fronting our video coverage of industry events such as NAMM. With all features content you’ll deliver video and social media components, ensuring that print and digital continually support each other. In addition you’ll spend time regularly visiting leading manufacturers to negotiate exclusives on forthcoming gear, forging strong commercial relationships. It’s a unique role where you’ll have the chance to increase your music industry profile and develop your multimedia journalism skills in a highly creative environment.

You’ll have a deep, current and wide-ranging technical knowledge of guitars, amps and effects. A proven track record and demonstrable experience in writing and editing high-quality content, in particular reviews and features for print or digital, is needed. You’ll be an active and competent guitar player with a knowledge of and interest in music making on guitar. Proactive, commercially aware and highly motivated, you’ll be looking for a role where you can help drive the brand reach and sales using your excellent interpersonal skills. Experienced and skilled in the effective professional use of social media is needed. Ideally you’ll have some experience of using CMS software, and basic skills in publishing and music software. You’ll be confident delivering video content and ideally have some experience of presenting video and editing.
