Strings Teacher (3-year contract)

Saint Ultan’s Primary School in Cherry Orchard, Dublin, is seeking a string teachers.

Responsibilities are as follows:
– Develop strings curriculum for pre-school to age 12.
– Teach strings to large and small groups of children.
– Recruit and manage curriculum, timetabling and logistics of part time music tutors (strings, percussion, wind and brass).
– Establish and manage the instrumental tuition and practice sessions, including curriculum content, assessment and evaluation for small group master classes.
– Network with other similar local, national and international music programmes, including representation of Presto Project at Sistema Europe.
– Co-ordinate music holiday camps – in consultation with Programme Manager and School Principal.
– Work in partnership with the Programme Manager, as appropriate on music and broader arts events, concerts, performances and general strategic and operational planning matters.

Following essential requirements:

  • Candidate must be a professional strings player (upper and/or lower strings) – experience in performance at a very high level.
  • Degree in Music or Music performance
  • Strings curriculum development
  • Experience in group teaching
  • Conducting or directing ensembles and/or orchestra
  • Understanding of social inclusion and how music can be used as a vehicle to help break the cycle of educational disadvantage

This position will suit a person who is self-directed, motivated, creative, with a can-do attitude

Presto Project - a Sistema Inspired Project (formerly COPAC) is situated on Saint Ultans Campus, Cherry Orchard, Dublin 10. This campus comprises a Nursery, Early Education Unit, Mainstream Primary School (where most of the job will be centred) and Afterschool Service.

This project is funded through a combination of grants and sponsorships including The Lauritzson Foundation, Dublin City Council, Dept of Education and Skills School Completion & DEIS Programmes and local fundraising

3 year contract (subject to continued funding)

4 (out of 5 days Mon-Fri) day week
