Esposito Quartet

Esposito Quartet

Thursday, 21 September 2017, 8.00pm

Starting in Enniskillen on Monday 18 September with Music in Fermanagh, the Esposito Quartet will visit Clifden Arts Festival on Tuesday, the Pavilion Theatre Dún Laoghaire on Wednesday, St.John’s Theatre Listowel on Thursday, St.Michael’s Church Castletown Geoghegan on Friday, Ballina Arts Centre on Saturday and end in The Hugh Lane Gallery Sunday at Noon concert.

The Esposito Quartet are Mia Cooper and Anna Cashell (violins), Joachim Roewer (viola) and William Butt (cello).  Their combined bounty of experience as orchestra leaders, principals, professors, recital and recording artists and a common love of the quartet treasury drove them in 2010 to establish a string quartet.   Their name honours Michele Esposito, pianist and composer, who for forty years from 1888 was the initiator for much of the chamber music making in Dublin through the establishment of The Royal Dublin Society.   They last toured Ireland in 2016 and they performed in the Music for Galway Mid-Winter Festival last January.

In this six concert, cross-border tour, they will start their programme with Schubert’s expressive early String Quartet No.2, which was written when the composer was 15 years old.  An important historic Irish work by Michele Esposito will be followed by Beethoven’s extraordinary seven movement Quartet Op. 131.  The concert is funded by an Arts Council Touring Award and supported by RTE Lyric fm.

Programme

Schubert: String Quartet No. 2 in C major, D.32
Esposito. String Quartet No.1 in D major Op.33
Beethoven String Quartet in C sharp minor, Op.131
