Thomas Mc Carthy, Danny Diamond and Landless

Thomas Mc Carthy, Danny Diamond and Landless

Friday, 19 December 2014, 8.00pm

If you didn’t get a chance to catch Thomas at ‘The Night Before Larry got Stretched’ earlier this year, you can breathe a sigh of relief as he is back again for another glorious night of traditional song and music.

‘My name is Thomas McCarthy and I come from Birr in County Offaly in Ireland. My family are the McCarthys who settled there generations ago. I am an Irish Traveller, and come from a long line of old traditional singers and musicians who kept the tradition of singing strong.

These days I am based in West London but regularly go back home and have travelled back and forth since I was a child. When I went to Ireland as a child I would stay with my uncles and aunts who all sang.

I continue singing the old songs myself, I find great comfort in them and in continuing my tradition which I am passing to my niece and nephew who are fine little singers. I am confident that the tradition will continue.’

‘Danny Diamond is a fiddle player based in Dublin, Ireland. In his music Danny explores a unique sound-world, rooted in the rich heritage of Irish traditional music, but incorporating wider influences from Nordic and American folk to baroque music to experimental pop. He plays with the Irish traditional band Mórga, the experimental acoustic trio Slow Moving Clouds and released his debut solo album Fiddle Music in July 2014. The album has been widely acclaimed as one of the top Irish traditional releases of 2014.’
