Esker Festival Orchestra 2017 National Tour

The Esker Festival Orchestra embarks on its 4th annual festival and national tour between August 25th and 27th. The orchestra brings together 65 Irish and international emerging young professional musicians and is conducted by Galway born Peter Joyce (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna).

Their 2017 programme consists of Gustav Mahler's 'Songs of a Wayfarer' with Mezzo-soprano Carolyn Holt (Royal Academy of Music), a world premiere of new work ‘Iridescence’ by young Irish composer Christopher Moriarty (Winner of the 2017 Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year) and Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony 'Pathetique'. It will be perfected over an intensive rehearsal residency in NUI Galway from August 21st to 25th.

Before their national tour, Esker Festival Orchestra present an additional Evening of Chamber Music in association with the Black Gate Cultural Centre, Galway City on the Thursday, August 24th 8pm.

The Esker Festival Orchestra is delighted to continue their collaboration with The Galway Music Residency and the ConTempo Quartet who, along with other top professionals, will provide tutoring to the members of the orchestra.
