The Far Field children's traditional music and puppetry performance

Sunday, 25 February 2018, 2.30pm

Ceol Connected returns to Íontas Arts Centre (Castleblaney, Monaghan) for a one-off performance of their acclaimed interactive children's traditional music, puppetry, and storytelling performance - The Far Field.

Telling the story of Farmer Lonán, who, one summer’s day discovers a magical whistle hidden in a hare’s nest, Ceol Connected brings the realm of fairies and folklore to life in this enchanting performance for children ages 3+ and their adults.

Developed in 2017 with support from the Arts Council, The Far Field has since toured nationally, and has been performed at festivals such as Tradoodle Festival, Bualadh Bos Children's Festival, Roolaboola Childrens Arts Festival, and Cork Puppetry Festival. Most recently, The Far Field transformed the stage of the National Concert Hall as part of its 2017 Tradition Now Festival.

What makes The Far Field unique is its deep connection to the age-old stories, sounds, and cultural heritage of County Monaghan, brought to life in a magical and vibrant way for little ears and feet across the county! This theatrical adventure features some of Monaghan's finest musicians alongside stunning puppetry in a show that is sure to have everyone singing and dancing along.

'My kids and I were spellbound for the entire show. It’s been one of the best children’s shows I've attended in a while....' (Director of MusicTown Dublin).

The Far Field performers at Íontas Arts Centre are Thomas Johnston (whistles/song), Seán McElwain (guitar/fiddle), Samantha Harvey (keyboard), and Emma Fisher (puppeteer). Lighting Design by Sebastían Pizarro Olivera.
