Alex Petcu and Brian Dungan perform Steve Reich's Nagoya Marimbas and 6 newly written works in response. The concert takes place in Woodquay venue on the 23rd October at 7pm.

In Dialogue is a unique series which takes place from July to January. 5 concerts with a central work from an established composer along with premieres of new works written in response. Corresponding talks and workshops explore the instrumentation of the central works and the composers behind them. These events serve to enhance the musical discourse between the composers of now and then. Grant aid from Arts Council Ireland.

An Irish musician of Romanian origin, Alex Petcu is quickly establishing himself both nationally and internationally as a percussionist of the finest calibre. His recent appearances as a soloist with both RTE orchestras and as the National Concert Hall Rising Star recitalist are some of his main highlights so far.

Alex enjoys being involved in the creation of new music and so, regularly works with composers. Alex also specialises in solo and chamber music. He regularly performs with the Crash and Hard Rain ensembles, two of Ireland's main contemporary groups, and is a founding member of the Bangers and Crash Percussion Group, a new exciting percussion ensemble. Alex also enjoys performing in an orchestral setting and is a regular extra player for the various professional ensembles in Ireland such as the RTE Symphony, RTE Concert, Irish Chamber, Irish Baroque and Ulster orchestras.

As an orchestral percussionist Brian Dungan works regularly with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and the Ulster Orchestra. He is also timpanist and a founding member of Fishamble Sinfonia.

Brian loves to perform new music. He has performed the music of Thomas Adès, John Cage, Steve Reich and many more composers in professional concerts to rave reviews. Brian earned a Masters in music pedagogy from the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy, Budapest, following his first-class honours B. Mus. Ed (with Gold Medal) from Trinity College Dublin. He continues to study with Richard O’Donnell (Principal Percussionist, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra) on the Masters programme at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
