Assistant Professor – Music History, Middle Ages to 1750

The Department of Music at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor in Musicology, with an expected start date of July 1, 2019.

UC Berkeley seek a historian specializing in music before 1750. The successful candidate will be doing innovative work that increases the diversity and intellectual range of the field, connecting areas that might include the history of performance and musical technologies, ritual and religious practices, the history of science, critical histories of the senses and theories of affect, the emergence and limits of humanism and the human, the anthropology of sound, and music-making in the colonial world.
