Gyda Valtýsdottir is the founding member of one of the biggest success stories in the history of Icelandic music, mūm. The Epicycle project is the product of those teenage years, honing her craft and growing as an artist.

Bandmates Shazad Ismaily (synths) and Julian Sartorius (drums) compliment her exquisite cello playing and effortless voice, taking listeners on an otherworldly journey.

Gyda’s post mūm years were well spent, returning to her roots and obtaining a double masters in classical cello, at Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg, and Hochschule für Musik in Basel, all the while collaborating and exploring wherever possible.
The music Gyda has chosen to perform for the Epicycle live project is haunting and magical with works spanning millennia, from the two thousand year old ‘Seikilos Epitaph’, to George Crumb’s 1970’s masterpiece ‘God’s Music’ (Black Angels). Along the way, Schubert and Schumann, Hildegard von Bingen, Olivier Messiaen, Harry Partch and Prokofiev are all explored.
