Kirkoskammer ж The Horn Trio pays tribute to the unconventional chamber music configuration made famous by Brahms and carried on by György Ligeti, whose seminal trios we will present along with music from Hans Abrahamsen and young Irish composer Bill McGrath.

We are particularly proud to be giving the world premiere of a newly commissioned piece by composer Kevin O’Connell, a long-time influence on and supporter of Kirkos from our earliest days. Our Horn Trio is comprised of previous Kirkoskammer soloists Hannah Miller (horn) and Máire Carroll (piano), in addition to Siún Milne (violin) who made her Kirkos debut in March at our string quartet concert. In Brahms’ pioneering use of this unusual configuration, the sound of the horn, his childhood instrument, is tied up with early memories of his late mother, his connection with nature, and the imagery of a forest hunt. Join us to explore how contemporary composers have furthered – or diverged from – Brahm’s legacy in making this highly personal ensemble their own.

We’ll be serving complimentary wine (kindly provided by the Royal Irish Academy of Music) from 7pm, and music begins at 7.30pm.
