Assistant Professor of Theatre in the field of Musical Theatre

The Position: The Department of Music and Theatre is searching for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Theatre in the field of Musical Theatre to start August 19, 2015. Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a terminal degree in Musical Theatre or Theatre (Ph.D. or M.F.A.). A record of professional work in musical theatre. A record of successful teaching experience in higher education. A demonstrated record of commitment to diversity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, research, service, and working with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success as a versatile musical theatre professional with experience in regional and/or university settings. A record of successful teaching in the areas of musical theatre performance, history, and literature. Membership in AEA and/or SDC is preferred. The ability to be successful in a collaborative work environment focused on student success both within the major and in the broader university will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching of musical theatre and theatre performance and practice, scholarship, service, and advising. Course assignments may also include General Education courses. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department. Depending upon the applicant’s qualifications, additional responsibilities could include music direction, choreography, stage direction for both musical and non-musicals, and working with departmental outreach activities.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

The Department: The CSU, Chico Music and Theatre Department offers 4 BA degrees in General Music, Musical Theatre, Music Industry & Technology, and Theatre Arts. There are approximately 360 majors in our NAST and NASM accredited programs. The 14 tenured/Tenure track and 21Part-Time faculty are engaged in a wide variety of music and theatre activities, producing 4-5 theatrical productions per year plus concerts from 8 instrumental ensembles, and 4 vocal ensembles. These student activities will be further enhanced by the completion of the new Arts and Humanities building in the 2015-16 academic year. The Music and Theatre Department is also associated with the renowned North State Symphony. The Recording Arts program is nationally recognized. Student Groups such as Ink Blot Arts, National Convention for Music Education, the International Audio Engineering Society, National Band Directors Association, and the Momentum Choreographic Collective are strongly connected and actively engaged in our program. We also participate with USITT and KCACTF.
