CLEMENTI – THE PIANO SONATAS – RECITAL 4
DR FIONNUALA MOYNIHAN
To complete this series with an evening recital is an honour and a privilege. Clementi is a composer whose music both intrigues and challenges me.
There is a sense of ‘being an explorer’ when one interprets and performs him. He is not performed as much as he should be and only in recent years has he rightly been reintroduced to the concert stage. I feel his music demands the highest level of technical mastery, the utmost attention to detail and demands the performer to be creative and courageous at every turn. His compositions are like beautiful rare jewels and no two are the same.
The final concert includes some of my favourite piano sonatas from the early to the late period. It is an absolute pleasure to finish this amazing musical journey by performing three of Clementi’s sonatas for piano and flute with guest flautist Kieran Moynihan. These works are lyrical, joyous, elegant and engaging. It is an honour to perform them for you all and an absolute delight to perform them with my brother on flute. These sonatas have been among our favourites to perform in recent years and it is a pleasure to perform the set in their entirety at the Triskel Arts Centre in our native Cork city.
