Music Network is delighted to announce an additional concert to its Artist Residency 2017 with the National Opera House and Wexford County Council.  On Tuesday 24th October, exceptional British violinist Chloë Hanslip will join forces with Redmond O’Toole on guitar in a programme that includes Italian, Spanish and Argentinian works by Paganini, De Falla and Piazzolla in addition to a piece by Ian Wilson from Belfast. This exciting addition brings the total number of concerts in the series curated by Redmond O’Toole to six, adding to an engaging and diverse residency featuring a wealth of international and Irish musicians. 

Chloë Hanslip has dazzled critics and audiences with her spontaneity, flawless technique and sheer elegance of playing. A child prodigy, Hanslip made her BBC Proms debut in 2002 and recorded her debut album for Warner Classics at just thirteen. Over the past decade she has made the transition to violin superstardom through a series of highly-acclaimed recordings and performances with conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner, Sir Andrew Davis, Mariss Jansons, Paavo Järvi, Charles Dutoit, Michail Jurowski and Jeffrey Tate. Recent performance highlights include recitals in London (Wigmore Hall) and Tokyo, and concerto performances with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Czech Philharmonic, Czech National Symphony, Bern Symphony, Bremen Philharmonic, Duisburg Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and in the USA with Phoenix and Alabama Symphony Orchestras.

Redmond O’Toole is recognised as one of the most distinctive and original guitarists of his generation. He was the first to adopt Paul Galbraith’s ‘Brahms guitar’. This ground breaking instrument and technique uses an 8-string guitar in the position of a cello.  He has performed at major concert halls and events throughout Europe such as Passau International Guitar Festival, Germany, Ireland’s National Concert Hall, Royal Dublin Society Concert Hall and Hallein Guitar Festival, Austria. He has performed as soloist with orchestras such as BBC Ulster and the Irish Baroque and has toured extensively as guitarist for legendary Irish group The Chieftains. The Music Network Artist Residency Programme 2017 was developed to provide the selected musician with access to resources to curate a concert series in collaboration with Wexford County Council Arts Office and the National Opera House, Wexford. Curated by guitarist Redmond O’Toole, the series has featured a concert with Wexford Sinfonia Orchestra and RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, traditional Irish musicians Zoë Conway and John McIntyre with Iranian-born and Dublin-based brothers Shaháb and Sháyán Coohe, and will include performances from Wexford native soprano Sinéad Campbell-Wallace, Italian classical guitarist Oscar Ghiglia and the debut performance of the International Guitar Quartet. In conjunction with the concert series an extensive Learning and Participation programme has been developed that will engage with a range of community groups
