On Wednesday the 15th of May the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance will host Music Therapy and Pain Medicine: Special Event with Joanne Loewy. Dr Loewy DA, LCAT, MT-BC Director, Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine, at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York will provide research findings and share clinical practice to show how music therapy can enhance medical outcomes. There will also be live music experientials for pain management – from neonatal intensive care through to end of life.
Dr. Loewy practices and researches pain, sedation, assessment, pain, asthma and NICU music therapy. Her areas of specialty are assessment, pain and trauma. She has edited several books including Music Therapy in Pediatric Pain and Integrative Advances in Music and Medicine: Music, the Breath and Health. She is a Founding Member of the International Association for Music and Medicine.
The event will run from 10am to 5pm with sessions on Definition & Integrative Music Therapy Treatment Strategies, Chronic Pain, and workshops on Pain and Music Therapy. Other speakers to include Dr Hilary Moss (University of Limerick), Prof Dominic Harmon (Consultant Anaesthetist, University Hospital Limerick), and Ms Katie Fitzpatrick (University of Limerick).
