Henry Vega + Anat Spiegel - Wormsongs.
Clang Sayne (Laura Hyland, Judith Ring, Matthew Jacobson + guests).

'Wormsongs' is a new musical work for voice, electronics and live visuals, performed by composer Henry Vega (electronics) and Anat Spiegel (voice), and accompanied by real-time visual projections by video artist Emmanuel Flores. Inspired by Spiegel's distinctive voice and a variety of vocal traditions such as religious intoning and spoken-word, Vega orchestrates streams of automatic sound with vocal parts to match, creating a digital language that spans the spectrum from noise to pure sine in a style he describes as micro-minimal with a passion towards machine-kind. A preview of the work, along with an interview with the performers can be found at http://vimeo.com/29800578, and a free download of one of the Wormsongs pieces can be found at https://soundcloud.com/henryvega/the-worm-songs-2-sermon-on-files-and-vile-springs

"Henry Vega is a very abstemious miniaturist, one who distills his musical output with as much care as a chemist of the 17th century. [Anat Spiegel] is adept at holding on to a monotone and working the note into the ground, as she twists her tongue around some very spiky syllables." The Sound Projector

Biographies:

New York-born composer and performer, Henry Vega's music ranges from virtuosic instrumental pieces to subtle, colourful compositions that combine traditional instruments with electronics. Many of his works feature the computer as a live instrument, and aim to create new sounds that fuse the virtuosity of an instrumentalist with digital variations of themselves. His is currently interested in theatrical settings of his music that incorporate video, and a minimal aesthetic that juxtaposes simple harmonies with noisy counterpoints. Currently based in The Netherlands, Vega’s works have been performed in Europe and the Americas, both by his own trio, The Electronic Hammer, and by groups he has written for, including MAE, VocaalLab, Ensemble Integrales, the Ragazze String Quartet and the Roentgen Connection. www.henryvega.net

Clang Sayne was founded in London in 2008 by songwriter and musician, Laura Hyland to perform her music in collaboration with other musicians. Her music draws on both experimental sound improvisation and song, and pushes the boundaries of how voice, guitar and song are traditionally perceived. Her 2009 debut release, 'Winterlands' received international critical acclaim, and was described as "exhilarating in its refusal to conform" (The Wire) and "showing an uncatargorisable approach to songcraft" (Tokafi magazine). Since returning to Dublin in 2011, Laura has reformed the group with renowned Dublin musicians, drummer, Matthew Jacobson and vocalists, Judith Ring and Olesya Zdorovetska. www.clangsayne.net/video_29.01.12-listen-lilliput.html
