Director of Music
The church has an exciting opportunity as a result of Heritage Lottery and other funding to undertake the restoration of the church organ and run an innovative developmental project aimed at encouraging local people of all ages to appreciate and enjoy choral music in the church and community. Following the retirement of the previous organist and the need to restore the organ we are seeking to engage a new Director of Music.
We are looking for someone with wide musical tastes, who is imaginative self-motivated, enthusiastic, suitably qualified and experienced Director of Music and Organist under whose guidance the music and worship of our church can flourish. The contract will be for a period of 36 months. There will be the expectation that after this period the person would become our permanent Director of Music at a salary to be agreed at that time.
We require someone
– To play the organ at all our services
– Develop and grow our choir
– Form a community choir
– Encourage the inclusion of children and young people in the music of the church.
– Enhance the wider musical life of the church and the local community.
We are seeking someone with demonstrable ability and qualification in organ playing in a church, experience leading and conducting choirs, a cooperative approach to working with others and the capacity to inspire and encourage participation in music. Willingness to work in partnership with clergy, other musicians and members of the wider community is essential.
