Glow Upon The Fringe
Following a cracking season opener on Sept 6th, Dublin's best-loved music series cracks on with its autumn offerings. The Oct 4th show, entitled “The Glow Upon The Fringe” presents the first outing of the season of Ensemble in Residence, the Esposito Quartet, with music by the great Franz Schubert and Michele Esposito, the Italian composer who spent most of his professional life in Dublin and from whom the ensemble takes its name. Violinist of the quartet, Anna Cashell will perform the Irish premiere of a work by Stephanie Boyd, "Nostrorbis", which is the Irish premiere of the "World Sonata Project", whereby 50 violinists from around the world have co-commissioned the work, to be performed throughout 2017 in their own country or region. The Irish Anches Trio (Aoife McCambridge (oboe), Macdara Ó Seireadáin (clarinet), Sinéad Frost (bassoon)) offer some woodwind balance to the evening, performing a rarely heard work by Alexandre Tansman, a Jewish-Polish composer who fled his homeland in the midst of WW2. The final act of the evening is the foot-tappingly-delightful Pine Marten string band, comprising Paddy Kiernan (banjo), Simon Guy (mandolin), Alec Brown (cello) and Niall Hughes (bass), a new force in the Irish trad-bluegrass scene and one tipped for the heights in the wake of the debut of their "Gone Beyond" EP.
