Technician (Music/Theatre)

Main Purpose of Job:

Promoting the welfare of children and young people

To provide assistance to staff and students in the classrooms and studios in order to ensure that the provision:

The post-holder will be a member of the Faculty of Enterprise and Services within the Hair, Beauty, Hospitality and Retail Operations area.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

(1)  Reflect the vision, mission, aims and values of the college. 

(2)  Support the teaching staff through the preparation and maintenance of material and equipment including musical instruments and recording devices, as well as specialist software. 

(3)  Support students in the learning environment by maintaining appropriate resources and understanding their use e.g. microphone usage and placement, recording studio operations, live sound reinforcement 

(4)  Maintain the ICT resources in the area (editing workstations, Recording studios and theatre lighting box) 

(5)  Regularly update the software (when necessary) on the Apple Mac computers used in the curriculum area. 

(6)  Manage the sound and lighting equipment in the theatre during performances. 

(7)  Ensure electronic data is stored appropriately; ensuring regular back-ups are performed. 

(8)  Booking out equipment using the college booking system. 

(9)  Capturing audio for student assessment using the colleges recording studios. 

(10)  Order and record stock purchases. 

(11)  Maintain and repair equipment within the Curriculum Area. This will involve working with musical instrument electronics and mechanisms, along with tuning drum kits and minor electronics. 

(12)  Maintain records and implement the Health & Safety Policy. 

(13)  Provide customer care with regard to enquires from members of the public. 

(14)  Ensure documentation for IR ordering/Risk Assessment/Asset monitoring are in place and managed. 

(15)  Be aware and be responsive to developments within the curriculum area. 

(16)  Keep work areas clean and tidy.

(23)  Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with this grade. at the initial agreed place of work or at other locations in the College catchment area.
